Carpool, People carpool

Hey Guys,

I have decided to postpone buying a new car for me as long as I can. The number one reason behind it is sky touching gas prices. My workplace is 20 miles far from my home so I travel 40 miles daily. Right now I carpool with friends. I believe myself so blessed for following reasons:
  • My friend is so nice; my commuting doesn’t cost me a penny.

  • I don’t get stressed in the morning as I don’t have to drive daily on those freeways full of traffic.

  • Big freeways have separate lane for carpool, so from my carpool lane I can see other lanes moving at snail speed.

  • I save money, time and help environment.

What are your thoughts? What are other advantages and possible disadvantages? If it’s not possible for everyone everyday, one can share a ride at least once a week. That can make a considerable difference to your pocket and Mother Nature.

I love vehicles wayyy too much to share them with someone. I completely agree with the good parts of carpooling, however, I personally will never do it unless financially I am forced to.

Driving in traffic never bothers me. I never feel frustrated in jams. I take that situation easily. So, that is never a problem.

I wouldn't mind if others want a ride in my car and thus we can enjoy the privileges of carpool lane.

Again, I agree with all the good things carpool can do. Personally, I won't contribute to any of those if I have to be on pinion seat.

Sounds like a good idea, only if u can find a not so meany mate. However, I love my car and wouldnt want to share it with people, at least wudnt let them drive :P.

I have also postponed buying a new car, due to some different reason, though.

But still a good idea.

Another little one but good idea !!!

Agree with it with certain conditions !!!

reasons why i agree :

1) i hate driving !!!
for me nothing much better than i can get a ride with my few favourite people...

2) vey much concern about environment .. think of how good it could be if 3 people go in same car instead of 3 ???

you can play an active role without doing anything in preventing "global warming" !!

3) No headache fo parking, traffic, even toll tax can be shared.

these are some very common reasons one can easily agree for carpooling!!!

then why this aint so popular?

just because its always not comfortable with everyone!!!

people dont have tendency to maintain it for some reasons..

but again, if i am offered with my fav people, i would love to choose that !!!

I agree with all you people. It is a very good idea, still not for all. Because sometimes you have to try hard to match schedules with each other and you may not like other people's driving style. So as I said before, you can at least share it once or twice a week.

Only one question I have, does USA authority allow 12 years old child to drive a car?
if no, then no point in discussing this thing....B-) :P

please correct me,incase you find it wrong..;;)

@NiketRK: If you are referring to Zee as 12 year old child, YES. US authority does allow her to drive the car; they are only concerned with the physical age, not mental. ;-) :-P

@tejas,
okey, so they are checking the age which is written in birth certificate...
and personally I don't want to give any comment on about whom i asked that question,(you know someone can bring out talwaar against me, waise i don't know he is on blog or not, but somehow it is risky..;))..

@Zalak
NOW I can say, it is really a good thing that you have performed. I really appreciate it.
One advantage that I am seeing here, apart from that you said is:
apart from orkut and messenger and and weekend, we can spend some good time with friends.

Well I think people in california are very much concerned about the global warming, its good we all should be. just a note to you all, as Zalak said she lives 20 miles away from work, try to get a place near your work place (average American person's commute to work is more than 27 miles per day, I read it somewhere). I know its not always feasible. It would be easier for people who have car and are single. I also used to stay 16 miles away from my work, but now i moved to a new place and stay about 4 miles away from work, so now am driving 32 miles/5 days instead of 32 miles/1 day. So with your carpooling effort it would make a big difference, also if you are thinking to buy new car, give a thought to hybrid( I regret not buying one). I know it is more costly but we sure can make even more contribution by doing so. Even more, Chevy is testing a new electric car (not sure when it would be in market) but they say that if you charge it, it runs first 40 miles on battery(which is ones daily commute to work).
